There’s always something new the moment we refresh the page, and it can be difficult as writers to keep up with that. Information is old hours after it’s released. The more inundated with information we get, the harder it can be to relate to stories we’ve already heard. Today, I’m a big proponent of modern fairy tales. I was just experiencing them with a different narrative spin. They weren’t always sung to me by Muppets-though I believe to this day that’s the best way to tell ANY story-but I was not missing out these well-known tales. The thing is, I still ended up learning about the classics, just in other ways, by seeing them in different mediums I could relate to infinitely better than the original source material.

There were a few over the years that I read for one class or another that I liked-and more that I sloughed through as if they were my own personal Statler and Waldorf, heckling me from every page like my not knowing why the curtains were blue was the biggest sin of them all. I’ve never been one to read the classics for fun. Why? Well, Gonzo the Great started his version of the tale with, The Marleys were dead to begin with, implying there were at least two, and he’d never lied to me before! Here’s a fun fact about me: I was in college before I knew that there was only one Marley in A Christmas Carol.
